Why do we think it’s normal for Pugs & Bulldogs to snuffle & choke?

Following up on this week’s theme of discussions about brachycephalic dogs, I’ve written a piece at the Daily Telegraph about how it has almost become “normal” for short-nosed dogs to have noisy, snuffling, choking breathing.

Many people regard their pets’ noisy, snuffling breathing as “cute”. This is a serious welfare issue and is well recognised in the dog world, but to date, little has been done about it. But vets are now calling for urgent action to tackle the problem.

This also links to the petition that we are asking vets and vet nurses to sign, with the long term aim of setting up a working group to look at the best way of dealing with this serious welfare issue.
