The triathlon open water season has just begun

The triathlon season is now underway and Pete often mentions triathlon goings-on as part of his Pat Kenny vet spot. This week he mentioned two events coming up this summer.

Lough Cutra Castle

This weekend in Galway, Lough Cutra Castle Triathlon is happening, with 12 races of various lengths for adults and children, and over 1,500 athletes expected. The mixed relay race is a new type of event that’s taking place on the Saturday afternoon, with a junior mixed relay happening free of charge to entrants on the Sunday.
It’s a fabulous event, with swimming in the private lake, cycling on the roads around Co. Galway and the Burren before returning to run on the tracks, trails and woodlands of the castle estate, crossing the finishing line with the backdrop of one of Ireland’s only privately owned castles. There are lots of activities on site for spectators and supporters of all ages, from climbing walls, a triathlon festival expo and live entertainment. For more information on the events or to belatedly book your race place, visit the race website.

Dublin Ironman 70.3

Pete’s main race this summer will be  IRONMAN 70.3 Dublin on August 20, 2017.

This race is always an exciting prospect for both seasoned and first time athletes. Starting with the 1.2 mile swim in Scotman’s Bay before embarking along the Irish coast on fully closed roads and through the iconic city centre on a single loop 56 mile bike course. Finally, experience the splendour of Phoenix Park, one of the largest walled parks in Europe on the 13.1 mile run.
