Microchip identification is now compulsory for all dogs over the age of 12 weeks in Ireland. From April 6th 2016, it will be compulsory for all dogs over the age of 8 weeks in the UK.
The mainstream media has been stirring some unease recently with sensationalist articles focusing on the possible complications of microchipping of dogs. I feel incensed about this: I see microchips as a highly positive step forwards for animal welfare, for dogs and for dog owners.
It’s far more helpful to use the media to present a balanced view of the microchip story, and that’s what I’ve just done for the Telegraph.
