Obesity in pets: what you need to know

It is bizarre that the most common nutritional issue that I see in my daily work is a problem of excess: people simply giving their pets too much food. You would think that this was the simplest problem to solve: just give a fat dog less to eat, and get them to do more exercise.

The fact that there are so many overweight dogs demonstrates that it is clearly much more complex than it first seems. There are many reasons for this, but perhaps the single biggest factor is human psychology. For some reason, people find it difficult to give their pets less food.

I’m often asked questions about the issues associated with obesity in pets, and to keep things simple, I have written a blog post on the Allianz website which summarises the main points. Rather than repeating them here, I’d ask you to click on the link below to read more.
