Under Irish Law, all dogs need to be microchipped, yet less than half of the country's dogs have had this done. This week is the first Nationwide Microchipping Awareness Campaign, run by Dogs Trust.
Pedigree cats need to be bred with care, choosing only healthy individuals without extreme conformation (such as flat faces or odd-shaped ears), and health testing should be done to prevent inherited diseases.
