Overfeeding pets is the biggest animal welfare problem of our time

I’ve just been to an international conference on pet obesity, learning about aspects like gut microflora, metabolomics, and psychological aspects examining why owners find it so difficult to feed their pets less food. It’s a challenging area, but if our society genuinely cares about pet animals, it cannot be ignored. It seems so simple: “stop overfeeding pets because it makes them fat.” Yet it clearly is much more complex than this, just as it is with overweight and obese humans.
