Dogs pick up this parasite by eating slugs and snails. Even if dogs are not seen to do this, they often eat tiny slugs and snails when they eat grass, or if they drink water from puddles in gardens. Lungworm can cause serious – even fatal – disease, so prevention of the problem is an important part of responsible pet care.
