Importing a dog from another country can be more complicated than you might think. Pets are travelling through Europe far more commonly than in the past, and that means that illnesses can travel with them. I have been trying to warn people locally for some time, but the rescue kennels near us are still making a play of “rescuing” dogs from abroad. Our family in Spain has lost dogs to Leishmaniasis, but despite my clear warnings, it is still going on. I despair – people think they are being kind, but risking our own dogs’ health.
