Pete the Vet book review: Toby Jug – a tale of a cat’s adventures in the English countryside

“Toby Jug” is retired psychologist and teacher Denis O’Connor’s fourth book. O’Connor introduced us to his adventures with his rescued Maine Coon cat in his book ‘Paw Tacks in the Moonlight’, which was Book of the Week
on BBC Radio Four. In this latest book,  ‘Toby Jug’, the story continues with more of their escapades.

If you are a cat lover, animal lover or simply have a dream of living life in the beautiful countryside this book will not fail to charm. The description of winter and Christmas in the first chapter of this book drew me in from the word go and throughout the book O’Connor gently shares his experiences with his extraordinary cat in tow. From learning to sail, upsetting the locals and their otter hunt, experiencing ghostly encounters with a witch and the sadness of a relationship with a rescue horse named Lady May, I am sure there will be something in this book that will amuse, and also touch the heart.

My recommendation for a miserable autumn evening, draw the curtains, settle down by the fire and enjoy.
