Vets are obligated to continue to pay for education every year for their entire careers: in the UK, it’s 35 hours per year, and in Ireland, at the moment it’s 20 hours per year. If Irish vets don’t complete this number of hours, they are fined, and then they are not allowed to re-register as vets until they have brought themselves up to date. It’s an effective way of ensuring that vets remain up to date with the latest facts about animal care.
