The pet food industry is one of the biggest businesses linked with our pets. We all need to feed our dogs and cats every day, forever, and it’s more cost effective (and often healthier) to feed commercially prepared food.
The world of pet food – like the rest of the world – is changing rapidly, and the industry is considering what the future holds: how can pet food continue to be sustainable in a rapidly changing world with dwindling resources?
One idea is to use insects as a protein source.
Beetles and flies – or their larvae – can be incorporated directly into pet food, or perhaps more likely, can be used as a protein supplement for farm animals that are then used for pet food production. Surveys show that most pet owners are reasonably open to this concept. How do you feel?
